Dial-up Networking

Q. Why do I keep getting an error that the line is busy?
Usually when you receive a busy signal after dialing in, it is because you have *70 in the phone number, but do not have call waiting. If this is not the case, be sure that the number you are dialing is a local number and that you are not dialing the area code with the number.

Q. Why do I keep getting an error that says "Dialup Networking could not negotiate a compatible set of networking protocols you specified in setup..."
This is an unfortunate bug within Windows 95/98 Dialup Networking. This problem can usually be relieved by just restarting the computer. If the error persists then reinstallation of the dialup networking software is needed.

Q. Why do I keep getting the error "The dialup adapter is not configured correctly?"
The setting in Network under Control Panel are not set correctly or certain files are missing. Check the settings in your Windows 95/98 installation guide. If the problem persists then a reinstallation of Dialup Networking is needed.

Q. Why do I keep getting an error that says the modem is not responding?
Chances are there is a phone dialer or fax software conflicting with the port the modem is using. Try to disable all call center programs as well as fax software. If the problem persists contact your computer manufacturer.

Q. Why is there a message saying "There is no dialtone?"
Usually this problem is caused by the phone line not being plugged into the correct port of the modem. Check the connection of the phone cord and try again. Also the problem could be a bad modem not allowing dial tone to come through.

Q. How do I stop Dialup Networking from dialing the area code or country code?
Double click on "My Computer." Then double click on "Dialup Networking." Single click on the WolfNET icon, then click on File and Preferences. A screen will appear with the phone number you are dialing on top. Click on the checkbox (which is probably checked) which says "Dial country code and area code" so the checkmark goes away. This should fix the problem.

Q. Why does Dialup Networking keep asking me for my password?
This usually means that the username or password in the fields are incorrect. Ensure that both the username and password are correct. Retype both the username and password in the fields, making sire that your caps lock key is turned off. If you are still experiencing problems please contact WolfNET right away.

Q. After I connect, I cannot access anything in Netscape or Eudora. What is going on?
The first thing you want to do is ensure that all of your dialup networking and Network settings are correct. Be sure there is only one TCP/IP protocol prest in the network settings of the control panel. If all of the settings are correct, check to see if you have multiple winsocks on the system. The only instance that should be there in under c:/windows.
